Energy in Vedas

Vedas describe energy by the name of agni. The same agni when located in various spaces is named variously as Indra, VÈyu, JÈtavedas, Vai„vÈnara, Puri–ya, ƒuci, PavamÈna, PÈvaka, A„va, Gau, AjÈ, Avi etc.  Some 200 SÊktas have been devoted to Agni (energy) in ÿgveda. Agni is noted to devour his parents (matter) soon after its birth. This points nothing else but conversion of matter into energy. Aiteraya BrÈhma‡a (2.3) and TaittirÏya Br. (1.4.4.10) upholds

agniÌ sarvÈ devatÈÌ’

All material bodies in universe originated from Agni (energy).

ƒatapatha BrÈhma‡a (1.6.2.8), TȇÇya BrÈhma‡a (9.4.5.18), “aÇvi¤„a BrÈhma‡a (3.7) and Gopatha BrÈhma‡a (Second part, 1.12.-13) also observe in similar terms.

agnirvai sarvÈ devataÌ.

Energy is behind the birth of all material world.

sarvadevatyo agniÌ (ƒ.Br. 6.1.2.28)

Energy involves entire material creation.

At another place it is observed that one and the same agni has transformed into various material objects.

‘eka eva agnir bahudhÈ samiddhaÌ’

According to Aitareya BrÈhma‡a (2.6), all the visible matter particles (material objects) in the observer space are made up of agni (energy).

Ègneyo vÈva sarvaÌ pa„uÌ.

TaittirÏya BrÈhma‡a, (1.1.4.3) also observes as,

ÈgneyÈÌ pa„avaÌ.

Kapi–—hala SaŠhitÈ (31.19) says that matter particles are verily agni (energy).

pa„urvÈ agniÌ. agnimukhÈn prajÈpatiÌ pa„Ên as‚jat.

God created material objecets from the mouth of agni (energy).

According to ƒatapatha BrÈhma‡a (6.1.4.12)

sarve pa„avo yadagniÌ. tasmÈdagnau pa„avo ramante.

All matter particles are transformed from energy, so it may be said that all particles reside in energy.
